10 Quick Keyboard Shortcuts For Popular Webmail Services

These tips are for use in supported browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome etc.), meaning they probably won’t work in Opera or other alternative browser. JavaScript also needs to be enabled in order for these to work (you would know if you turned if off).

Yahoo! Mail

  1. Search mail: s
  2. Forward message: f
  3. Reply to all: a
  4. Turn the reading pane on or off: v
  5. Mark as read: k
  6. Mark as unread: K (yes, case matters)
  7. Send message you’re composing now: CTRL+Enter
  8. Close the mail tab you have open: CTRL+\ (backspace)
  9. Move a tab to the left: CTRL+[
  10. Move a tab to the right: CTRL+]

Hotmail

  1. Check spelling: F7
  2. Go to inbox: F then I
  3. Go to drafts folder: F then D
  4. Go to Sent folder: F then S
  5. Reply to a message: R
  6. Reply-all to a message: A
  7. Forward a message: F
  8. Save a draft: CTRL+S
  9. Mark message read: SHIFT+I
  10. Mark message unread: SHIFT+U

Gmail

  1. Search mail: / (forward slash)
  2. Archive message: e
  3. “Star” a message: s
  4. Report a message as spam: !
  5. Reply to a message: r
  6. Reply-all to a message: a
  7. Forward a message: f
  8. Delete a message: #
  9. Assign a label to a message: l (letter L)
  10. Undo previous action: z
