2009 Changes to PCMech Membership Program

Posted Jan 2, 2009 by David Risley

OK, Friday has arrived. That means tomorrow I am going on a much needed vacation with my wife. It also means that it is time to unleash what we’re going to be doing differently with our membership program in 2009.

First, here are the three videos I’ve done this week already:

  1. Feedback from PCMech Members [Video #1]
  2. Explanation of PCMech Membership Program [Video #2]
  3. Audience Interrogation - PCMech Membership Program [Video #3]

And, today, here is the fourth video. Below this video, I’ll explain where we’re heading and what’s going to happen.

OK, so in summary, here is what we’re doing differently:

  1. The membership system is going to be re-designed so that members will have no problem finding all of the members-only material that we have in our system. We have a LOT of it, but I’m also aware that PCMECH has over 4,000 articles and it might be a little hard finding the stuff which is exclusive to our premium members. That’s about to change.
  2. Rich and I are going to soon begin doing videos for members. Lots of videos. Like, almost every single day (except weekends). These videos will only be available right here on PCMECH.COM. I will be covering all kinds of topics, from computer instruction, software, tips, optimization, right on into the realm of internet business, marketing, blogging, and all kinds of various ways that you can make money with your computer and the Internet. And, no, this is NOT going to be exclusive only to people who already know some of the ropes. Even if you have no earthly idea how to make any money on the Internet, you will be able to learn with these videos.
  3. I will be launching a members only help desk. If you have a question or need specific help, you can submit your question to our help desk. We will either answer your question in video form so all members can benefit, or we’ll send you an email response.

All of this is on top of everything we’ve been doing in 2008.

I have been doing a lot of video over on David Risley dot com. I’ve gotten it down to almost a science. I can produce a lot of video quickly now. On top of that, video is a superior way of learning. You can SEE me. I can much more accurately convey thoughts and ideas in video form.

2009 has the potential to be a hugely successful year or a very rocky one. The economic situation means that it will be a make-break point for many. Our weekend surveys of PCMech readers indicated STRONGLY that the overriding concerns out there are job security and money.

And I intend to help.

For more information about the NEW membership program, go here to see our new, improved signup page where you can read all about it.

Lastly, as I said, I will be on a cruise next week. During the period I am gone, you can sign up for our PCMech Premium program at the 2008 level pricing. And your subscription rate will remain in effect even after I increase the price. So, you should sign up. And you should do it right away. When I get back, I will be turning registration OFF for everybody while I get busy re-working our system for the 2009 changes.

So, there you go! And, off you go to get the juicy details.

Which Of These Traits Applies To YOUR Computing Life?...

  1. Enjoy your cruise Dave & Co. ; you’ve earned it. I simply can’t imagine it being a “geekless” cruise though: I have a feeling we’ll be seeing the odd video posted to let us all know what the cruise is like, how you’re all doing, etc.

I take it Rich will be covering PC Mech Live during your absence?

    Best wishes to you all.

  2. Hi David,

    Enjoy your cruise!

I look forward to learning more from you and PC Mech in 2009.

For less than $10/month I’ll be signing up because like you say it’s a no brainer for the information that will be available.

    Thanks for everything you do!

Don’t eat too much on the cruise…if that’s even possible.

    Have a great day!

    Robert

Thank you. And yeah, I decided to just “do my thang” on the cruise, and I’ll be going on a hardcore diet when I get back. I could stand to lose about 30 pounds of blogger fat. ;)

  3. Alex says:

Hey Dave, enjoy your cruise, you deserve it. Which cruise line will you be on? Maybe post up a quick review of the ship and everything when you get back?

    • David Risley says:

I’ll be on Princess Cruise Lines. Never used them before. I might mention something on Twitter, but a cruise review isn’t really related to PCMech. :-)

  4. RANDY TALLMAN says:

Great to hear about premium member enhancements. I am looking forward to it. Enjoy the time you have with your family this week.

  5. [...] guys [and girls] saw me do several videos last week about our membership program. This week, while I’m gone, I have all channels open [...]

  6. David Labens says:

Give your wife the ultimate in customer service - send her to get a real massage. That’ll not only help her back, but calm her mind a bit, too. I should know, MY wife is a massage therapist! Good luck getting it (the 2009 program) finished!

  7. Jim says:

This single video post and the recent price change is how you lost a future member. You raised the price and promised more content yet have not come through on your end. The promises were made in the beginning of January and have only posted two more videos since this one?

The video content could possibly made the price worth it but with out it there are many other free sites that offer what you do. If you expect me to pay I expect you to provide what you promise… that’s how business works!

  8. David Risley says:

Jim, you’re completely mistaken. You are mistaking the videos we do in public with the ones we do for members. We have done a LOT more than 2 videos for members (if you were a member, you’d see them) and we have about 3 on tap for this next week.

Remember, our member content is now completely hidden from view of non-members. You’re simply not going to see if unless you sign up. Period.

  9. Jim says:

I apologize. As a new outsider looking into a new project it seemed to me like it had fallen to the way side. Is there a way to be able to see whats available like story and video previews or possibly even a 3 day trial or something?
