Day 1: 30 Days of Making Money Online

This entry is part 1 of 24 in the series 30 Days of Making Money Online

Posted Jun 19, 2008 by David Risley

If you could make your living online, would you? If you could actually use your computer to produce an income, would you? How real do you think making money on the Internet is?

PCMech is all about technology. We used to be all about tinkering with the insides of your computer. There are still many who enjoy doing that, but the emphasis has moved on. The emphasis today is on what you DO with your computer. Your computer is simply a tool to be used.

In this light, PCMech is going to begin to put more emphasis on using the power of the Internet to actually make money.

dollar_sign In this 30-part series, I am going to introduce you to the concept of making money on the Internet. I am going to lay out a lot of basics here. And, despite being a whopping 30 parts, this series is only going to scratch the surface.

Making money on the Internet is an acquired skill. Many people have devised their own ways of doing it and many of them will turn around and sell you that information for a hefty sum. It is easy to look at these products and their claims and assume that the entire thing is a sham, that these guys are selling you snake oil coupled with a pipe dream. Some many be. Others most certainly are not.

My Story In Brief

I began making money on the Internet when I was around 19. When I graduated college, I was the only person I knew who was not actively looking for a job. I already had one and I was my own boss. Today, I am a professional blogger. PCMech itself makes up the overwhelming majority of my business and is my primary website. I am able to support myself, my wife and my 6-month old by working from home. We live a comfortable living and I am not hurting for money. Obviously, I would like to do better. Everybody would. The day you stop trying to be better is the day you start to die.

I have been in circles with your classic internet marketer, too. These guys typically make more money than I do. But, they do so by selling people on how to make money online. That’s all well and good, but it does lead to an echo chamber of the same people marketing the same concepts to the same audience. I have my foot in that door and I know how these guys think. They have a lot to offer in terms of know-how.

But, professional blogging is a VERY different game.

A Look Ahead

So, in this 30 part series, I am going to cover the broad gamut. I am going to cover some concepts that you’ll need to understand to make money on the Internet. I’m going to show you ways to do it. I’m also going to try to show you how to approach this as a real business.

This IS a real business. This is not a get-rich-quick type of thing AT ALL. You are producing something that is in demand in exchange for compensation - just like any other business in the world. To do it right and to get to a point where you can replace your salary takes hard work and some time.

I am an evangelist when it comes to the Internet as a platform for generating an income. It is the one platform that is truly equal opportunity. Anybody can do it regardless of location, race, sex, - anything! All it takes is work.

Most of you are used to using the Internet as a consumer. You use it for fun, for research, for socializing. But, once you realize that you can also use your computer and the Internet to make cold hard cash that you can pay bills with, you’ll never turn back.

I’m not the die-hard expert on this stuff by any means, but I have a lot to share and a lot of experience to base it on.

I hope you enjoy this series. Check back with us to see new entries to this series 30 Days of Making Money Online.
