Everybody should have their PC’s hooked up to a surge protector of some kind, but here’s the deal: Dont blow a lot of money on an expensive one. In most cases, the cheap ones perform the job every bit as good as more pricey ones.
Better yet, get yourself a UPS if you don’t have one. A UPS will power your computer in the event of a power outage and will even keep the electrical current nice and steady in periods when the power is fluctuating (which is not good for your hardware and, if serious enough, can cause an instant reboot). What’s more, a UPS powers your PC by battery all the time, even when the electricity is perfect. It simply charges the battery all the time, too. But, being that your PC is technically not plugged directly into the wall, it is immune to surges.
