Conclusions and Final Rating
Highs
- Solid BIOS
- Stable
- Dual Channel DDR
- USB 2.0
- AGP 8X
- Good onboard sound
- Onboard NIC
- Serial ATA
Lows
- ATX connector placement
- No mounting holes around CPU socket
- Overclocking above 180MHz difficult
Like most Abit boards, the NF7-S is stable, and packed with features the enthusiast crowd wants. Overclocking on this board was extremely easy, although we were not able to use bus speeds over 182MHz with any stability, and the other reviews I have seen on this board have similar results. Overclocking potential aside, this board is literally loaded with features and useful onboard options. The wonderful SoftMenu III is still one of the best BIOS’s around, and makes performance tweaking extremely simple. The onboard LAN, FireWire, and even sound are exceptional values when the cost of each feature is considered as an expansion card. Overall, the NF7-S is a stable, feature rich AMD platform, with only the somewhat less than stellar overclocking holding it back from being a class leader.
