If you are currently a student or a faculty member in the market for some new software, be sure to look into whether or not you can purchase an Academic License. These are full products sold at a substantially discounted rate and is intended to be used for classroom or educational purposes.
Since you can’t have your cake and eat it too, academic software usually does not come with technical support and, typically, is not eligible to be upgraded to a newer version. Additionally, academic licenses cannot be used for commercial purposes, as a commercial license will be needed if you want to use your academic software outside its intended use.
Different software vendors require different proof of whether or not you are eligible, but this academic software is definitely worth looking into as it can save you some serious money.
