For those of you who make use of Skype’s ability to make and receive calls to/from any phone (via your Skype Online Number), a feature which had been missing for far too long is now available: caller ID. Previously, whenever you would call from your Skype number, a random phone number would appear on the recipients caller ID instead of your Skype Online Number (or your cell phone number).
Having your Skype Online Number (or cell number) as the caller ID has now “finally” been added for many countries (I use finally here because I just discovered it by accident, I don’t know how long it has been available, but I know the change was not heavily advertised as it should have been). Setup is very easy:
- Login to your Skype Account page.
- Go to the Caller ID tab.
- Select the number you want to use.
- Apply the changes.
Again, you can use your Skype number (default), or configure it to your your cell number. Currently, there is no way to set this up to use a land line since the number you want for your caller ID must be capable of receiving text messages. Regardless, this is a very welcome feature which every Skype user who makes calls from Skype should consider.
