The bottom line:
Altec Lansing has built another solid speaker system with the 5100s. The sound quality is outstanding for gaming and DVD playback, and even the occasional dorm party. The speaker system looks sweet, has a small footprint on the desktop, and costs less than many of the 4.1 systems on the market. The subwoofer performs well enough during gaming and movies sessions, but could use a little more power for music tracks. Overall, the Altec Lansing 5100 is an excellent low cost 5.1 system for the gamer wanting the total audio package.
