AMD Still Proves To Be The Big Money-Saver For High-End CPUs

Let’s say for the moment you want the most fastest, best possible CPU for your new PC build.

While not exactly a smart way to shop, an easy way to see the best that’s available is to purposely seek out the highest-priced desktop processors from AMD and Intel and see what comes up.

For AMD, there’s the AMD FX-8150, and on the Intel side there’s the Intel Core i7-3930K.

In the end most people would go with the AMD just based on principle alone as it’s a whopping $370 less than the Intel. The AMD at the time of this writing is $199 and the Intel an insanely high $569.

AMD has always been the lower-in-cost processor, but I’ve never seen a price difference this… obvious. And bear in mind the AMD isn’t even discounted presently; $199 is its current full price.

Does anyone want to take a guess what justifies the $370 more you’d have to pay for the top-of-the-line Intel? I’m stumped.

DISCLAIMER – NOT AN INTEL FANBOY

the current amd chips are nowhere near as powerful as the current intel stuff, for most users it doesnt matter but for people that constantly push their gear to the limits the intel stuff is miles ahead, most benchmarks will show this. this is why there has been such a big shake up at AMD recently with large amount of staff being made reduntant/sacked or moved to different departments, the current AMD chips are crap.

Agree with damien. I have been using AMD since the K5, but right now they are pretty far behind as far as speed goes. My last build was the first time i have used a intel chip in about 8 years. :(

I still like the “fusion” chips that AMd is putting out, but straight up CPU vs CPU Intel is taking them to the task.

i tried one of the fx 8150s out, was slower than my phenom 2 that i picked up second hand for half the price

  3. Check cpubenchmarkmark.net.
The i7-3930K  3.20GHz has a bench mark score of 13544
The FX-8150 has a bench mark score of 8267
The AMD costs less but it is less.

I’ve skipped Bulldozer and decided to stay with my X6 1100T for now. Piledriver, maybe, but by the time Steamroller gets here I’ll probably be in the market. Unless, of course, Intel is still stomping AMD…
