Apples Continues to be Cocky

It appears Apple is extending their “Mac versus PC” ad campaign onto the web. Check out the video below, from MacRumors, where Apple has creatively coupled a sidebar banner with a top ad banner. I guess through use of good timing, they have made it such that the guys in the sidebar banner and referring to a big banner at the top calling for “Don’t Give Up on Vista”.

I have to say, that is really creative. At the same time, though, this is the kind of thing Apple needs to stop if they want to realistically compete with Microsoft. Overtly poking fun at your competition doesn’t necessarily lead people to switch to you. Instead, it leads them to get a laugh and then write you off as a complete snob. Remember, Apple, your target audience with that ad is Windows users, not people who already think Steve Jobs is the second coming.

You can see it in live action on, ironically, the PC Magazine site article entitled “Apple Porn“. You gotta love the irony.

This time Apple has a legitimate point. XP is still a better OS than Vista. People know this and are voting with their pocketbooks.
