If you have not heard of it yet, the April Fool’s Day Virus is a legit threat. The real name of this threat is Confickor C and the danger of it is on April 1st (tomorrow), infected machines will phone home for instructions on what to do. Because of this behavior, nobody knows exactly what will happen.
[...] Conficker C imbeds itself deep in the computer where it is difficult to track. The program, for instance, stops Windows from conducting automatic updates that could prevent the malware from causing damage.
Your anti-virus software may or may not detect this threat since little is known about how it works. Additionally, the threat could have disabled your AV software updates. So how do you know if you are infected?
One quick way to see if your computer has been infected is to see if you have gotten automatic updates from Windows in March. If so, your computer likely is fine [...].
If nothing else, you should run your Windows Updates immediately to make sure your OS is fully patched.

How do you know if your auto updates have run?
Go to Add/Remove Programs and then check the box for “Show Updates”. Now scroll down to the Windows section and check the installed date column.
Thanks, I appear to have had updates to XP in March. So I will assume I am not infected.

My brother in law’s laptop seems to have been hit by conflicker… Is trying to use his laptop to send tons of emails. -_-
