Tests
The following tests were done using SiSoft Sandra 2000. This part of the test was done using PC133 SDRAM and none of the components were overclocked for this test. That will come later.
CPU benchmark with PC133 SDRAM

Since the Athlon processor usually outperforms the PIII clock-to-clock, this benchmark result is not really surprising. I was hoping for a better result with this board, but what it benched isn’t bad either.
Memory benchmark with PC133 SDRAM

Oh my goodness. What do we have here? It seems that the board’s memory performance is rather mediocre. I thought this board with PC133 SDRAM would post excellect memory benchmark results, but I guess I was wrong. I wanted to find out if my benchmarks are flawed so I did a little surfing and others have posted similar results as well. This is not the fault of ASUS’ motherboard but of the chipset itself.
Drive benchmark with PC133 SDRAM

Now this is interesting. I’ve bet on the wrong farm again! I thought the Maxtor Diamond Max 6800 drive would do poorly. Good thing there’s no money involved because I haven’t made one right guess yet. The drive’s excellent performance can partly be credited VIA’s custom bus mastering drivers. Without these drivers, the hard drive slows to a crawl.
