Asus Splits Into Three Companies

Posted Jan 5, 2008 by David Risley

Asus has been a long time manufacturer of computer hardware. I have long been a fan of their motherboards, and lately we have been seeing Asus notebook computers here and there. So, they’re a popular and prevalent company.

Well, Asus has announced they are splitting themselves up into three separate companies. The Asus name will still remain a brand, however Asus will be strictly in the computer and notebook business. The two new companies are Pegatron, which will handle their motherboard and PC peripherals lineup, and Unihan, who will handle their chassis and non-PC business.

The split is being done so as to allow Asus to grow its brand in the Asus-branded computer business while alleviating any confusion in the marketplace with its line of components.

asus_logo_2501 This may be a good move for Asus, however the way it is being done may rub their employees the wrong way. Its being reported that Asus employees had their pensions paid out on January 1st (the official date of the split). This means that, regardless of which company the employee ends up in, their pension is now being started from scratch.

So, I guess we won’t be seeing Asus-branded motherboards anymore. Building a new PC for yourself? Well, say hello to Pegatron.
