Branham Singleton is a Network Engineer working at NetStandard, Inc. (www.netstandard.com) in Kansas City, KS. NetStandard is a collocation and hosting facility and Branham handles much of the day to day engineering work in the NOC. Although this includes maintaining the uplink Cisco routers and the core Foundry switches he primarily enjoys his work as a contracted Security Analyst.
Branham was born in Elgin, Illinois and moved to Hays, Kansas at age three when his father earned a job as an English Professor at Fort Hays State University. As a child Branham tinkered with computers and began Mudding in the early nineties. By 1997 Branham had built his first computer and later that year earned his first job in the IT field as a Desktop Support Technician on the Compaq account at a call center. After a short time at the call center he was promoted to one of three lead helpdesk technicians and later worked on the Microsoft account repairing XBOX consoles.
In 2002 Branham earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Information, Networking, and Telecommunications from Fort Hays State University as well as a minor in English. Later that year he took a job as Network Administrator at Northwest Kansas Technical College. While at that position Branham gained immeasurable experience with Windows but was frustrated by the instability of Microsoft programs and the OS itself. As time wore on Branham began to move away from Windows towards the open source community and found that he really enjoyed working with open source firewalls like IPCop and Smoothwall. In 2005 Branham would take a position at The World Company as the Systems Analyst for Print Publications where he installed a hundred Macintosh desktops, a dozen Macintosh servers, as well as administering Solaris 9 servers.
In 2006 and 2007 Branham began earning technical certifications and to date has seven including and an MCP, his CCNA, and his CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional). Branham joined PCMECH in 2007.
