Advances in technology have affected the way we work, communicate, date and play. Now these same advances in wireless connectivity and smartphone ubiquity are helping homeowners to monitor and automate tasks in the house.

Can you imagine using your smartphone to be able to turn your home lights on or off, or monitor your home heating/cooling system? It’s already here and more people are taking advantage of it. From monitoring lights in your house, to raising or lowering window shades, wireless home control networks are playing a big role.

And having remote access to your home systems via smartphone, you can control more of your home environment while on the road for business or pleasure. This has benefits in saving money on air conditioning or heating usage, refrigerator control, lights, shades and more.

Home automation via wireless network controls is a growth industry. Technology market research firm ABI Research estimated in its 2012 Home Automation, Security and Monitoring report that by 2017, 90 million homes worldwide will use automation systems. That’s a solid 60 percent growth during the next five years.

ABI suggested smartphone applications are the key drivers in letting homeowners control and check their homes from wherever they are. And that’s helping to drive down costs for connectivity options via monthly subscriber offerings rather than traditional high costs of large up-front installation and equipment purchase.

Getting Started

For most folks, the first step into a smart home (home automation) technologies is to create a wireless control network that controls simple devices such as lights or blinds. To get started in creating a home wireless control system, two popular protocols exist for home automation control. One is ZigBee and the other is Z-Wave.

These wireless protocols are low-power, short-range wireless systems that incorporate mesh networking to enable coverage throughout the home. Plus, these networks don’t interfere with more common Bluetooth or Wi-Fi wireless networks you may already have in the home.

Here are some of the ways wireless control networks are already automating your home’s basic functions with technology. These systems are being integrated in new homes and homeowners are looking to upgrade in older models.

Wireless Home Security

If you’re a homeowner that works away from home, you know the value of a good home security system. For years, traditional home systems were wired to a phone landline and monitoring stations, and that has led to products like intruder alarms, door access control systems and outdoor surveillance cameras tied to closed circuit security systems.

The rise in cellular technology and smartphone usage is bringing newer home security systems tied to cell signals and Internet access to the masses. These wireless systems work even in the event of a power outage, downed Internet access or even when phone lines are cut. Affordable and easy to install, wireless systems are highly recommended to anyone who wants to avoid installing equipment into walls or forgo complicated wiring without compromising security.

One company, LifeShield (www.lifeshield.com), offers a Web and mobile app called LifeView that gives homeowners real-time access to home security systems, and it’s accessible to users through their smartphones, tablets or PCs, at no extra charge. Having this accessibility to your home security system while on the go will likely be a huge boom to homeowners in the coming years.

Kitchen Food Needs

RFID (radio frequency identification) technology via home automation systems is becoming more of a useful tool to identify refrigerator contents, control your ovens, coffee makers and other appliances.

Use your smartphone in connection with a home automation system to manage perishables and leftovers to better reduce spoilage, leave a digital note on your fridge door’s LCD screen, or stream a saved episode of a cooking program to your refrigerator door video screen while you cook.

You can also program and synchronize clocks and schedules, download new recipes from the Internet, and get text or email notifications when certain cooked foods or your coffee is ready!

Household Appliances

With a wireless control network set up, homeowners can work remotely with household appliances like washers and dryers in new tech ways. You can download new wash-cycle programs from the cloud; go online to check the status of your laundry, and if the event of any malfunctions, automatically notify the manufacturer or a repairman using your smartphone.

Heating & Cooling Systems

This may be one of the more crucial advantages to having remote access to your home. You can remotely program your temperature settings in the home while you’re away. This is super important if you’re leaving town for a few days and don’t have to keep the home cool or warm for pets. You can remotely set the temps to keep costs low and reset for when you’re returning from an extended trip.

Lighting & Blinds

In autumn and winter, the sun sets earlier and nights start sooner. It’s time to readjust your network lighting controls to turn lights on or off earlier. You can also set a schedule to open and close your window shades to keep potential burglars guessing if you’re at home or not. Plus, you can reduce money on heating and cooling bills by remotely letting in sunlight to give warmth, or keep shades down in the hot summer to control the cool air within.

Recently, the former CEO of CEDIA (Customer Electronic Design & Installation Association) is starting a new company that looks into the future and finds a business model that hopes to build a cloud-based home automation service and sell ads to subscribers that might include the subscriber’s choice of TV stations, home temperature settings, arrivals and departures and more.

Whatever way you look, the future keeps getting more tech advanced for home automation needs. No longer will you have to return home in the car because you forgot to lock the door. There’ll be an app for that.

After getting her Computer Science degree in NorCal, Alana Bender’s interest in writing about technology took over & she started freelancing for various blogs & publications. Alana loves the beach & Apple products.

This is a holiday buying guide for those who are looking to acquire an inexpensive laptop for themselves or for a friend. It is no longer uncommon for people to have multiple computers; some for work and some for play. Because of this, there are lots of people looking for secondary laptops that are very inexpensive. Fortunately, the price of laptops has come way down in recent years. That is the first thing in your favor. For those who are looking for deals, here are a few suggestions to keep in mind.

Online Coupons

Ok, suggestion number one. Look for discount coupons online. I just noticed that techbargains.com is offering a 20% off coupon for an Inspiron R series laptop. I have no idea how long that particular coupon will be offered but there are coupon offers popping up all of the time. It is surprising how many shoppers will forget to check out the available online coupons before they go shopping for a great deal on a laptop.

Refurbished

Suggestion number two has to do with one of the best kept secrets. Big computer retailers almost always have a great selection of refurbished laptops. A lot of people don’t know this because most of the retail sites don’t advertise this little secret. Sometimes you need to do some keyword searches on Google to find where these offers are hiding. A certified refurbished laptop is one that has been returned to the company and then completely retested by trained technicians to ensure they meet all of the original factory specifications. Some of these refurbished units have minor cosmetic blemishes that do not affect performance. To get even more information on refurbished laptops click here.

Scratch and Dent

Every large manufacturer and distributor is going to have a percentage of their products that will experience considerable cosmetic blemishes while moving them from point A to point B. Shipping items without bumping them is still more of an art than a science and some shippers are not very good artists. Nevertheless, these blemishes do not affect performance. Acquiring these laptops is another great way to save money while obtaining a quality laptop that has been through an outlet’s rigorous testing process. To see more on on this type of discounted desktops check this out.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday Cheap Laptop Sales

Finally, I need to stress the incredible opportunity that Black Friday and Cyber Monday offers laptop purchasers. These holidays are famous for great deals on just about everything but especially for electronics and even more specifically, laptops. Take the time several days in advance to do some serious Googling to compare the deals that will be had on those magic shopping days.
This holiday season is a great time to pick up on great laptop deals whether you are looking for new or used. It is also a great time to get Windows 8, the new Intel chipset and other bells and whistles you been wanting to get. Just remember, don’t be impulsive. Take the time to check out the current coupon offers as well as pricing on refurbished laptops.

Imagine this: a laptop that is more durable than traditional models while also being lighter and thinner. On the surface it sounds like a concept that consumers would latch onto. Yet as Rich wrote last month, Ultrabooks haven’t caught on. Ultrabook shipments will likely reach just half of the 2012 estimate, and the 2013 estimates have already been cut. It’s not a great time to be a computer manufacturer that sunk considerable money into the devices.

Still, the concept is sound. So why haven’t these light, thin, durable laptops captured the attention of the mass market? There are a few reasons for this. Thankfully, manufacturers can overcome most of them.

1. Price

Rich mentioned this in his original article, so there is no reason to belabor the point. With an entry level price of $600, ultrabooks do not come cheap. The loaded, business-standard models cost even more than that, usually over $1,000. At the same time, “normal” laptops continue to fall in price. You can get a standard laptop with the same features as an ultrabook for hundreds of dollars less. Faced with two products that are similar in nature, most consumers will pick the cheaper one if the difference is so steep.

Manufacturers might have good reason to justify these high prices. After all, ultrabooks do contain expensive parts such as solid state hard drives. But consumers aren’t quite understanding of these aspects. They care about the bottom line, so when they see similar products with a great price difference, there is little that will convince them to go with the more expensive model.

2. Marketing

To be clear, the term Ultrabook, as we’re employing it, refers to PCs typically running Windows software. Yet Apple beat ultrabooks to the market by a heavy margin when, all the way back in 2008, it released the MacBook Air. The Air did have many issues at first, but within a few years Apple had worked out the kinks. Despite the overall disappointment in ultrabook sales, the MacBook Air continues to sell well. The difference isn’t with the product performances, but of how the products are presented.

Apple has always run top notch marketing campaigns. They showed consumers how the MacBook Air fits their needs and fulfills their desires, and so people bought them. Companies like Dell, Lenovo, and Hewlett-Packard have yet to convince consumers of the same. They have a long road ahead of them — no one markets quite like Apple. But they certainly can take more care to properly market their products.

3. Traditional specs

If you go take a look at the specs Lenovo’s 14 inch Ultrabooks, you’ll something odd. The processors aren’t quite the speed you see from traditional laptops. They clock in at 1.5 to 1.8 GHz, while traditional laptops are well over 2 GHz. In fact, a MacBook I bought in 2009 has a 2.23GHz processor, far faster than these Ultrabooks. What gives? Doesn’t this mean that they’re slower than a three-year-old laptop?

Unfortunately, the mass market understands computer speed in terms of clock speed. When they see one devices with a 1.5GHz processor and another with a 2.2GHz, they automatically think that the 2.2GHz is faster. This is understandable; consumers can’t be expected to understand all aspects of computers. But this plays against ultrabooks. They often run more efficient processors that can run tasks faster, despite the lower processor speed. Combined with solid state drives, which run much faster than magnetic hard drives, ultrabooks can be faster than traditional laptops. But it’s tough to convey that to consumers.

4. The name itself

What, exactly, does the term ultrabook mean? As Rich noted, the term previously meant “top model of certain series of laptop.” But now it has come to mean something different. It means a new line of products entirely. Yet most consumers haven’t become privy to this recent change in terminology. Even worse, less computer savvy consumers might have never heard the term before. They have no idea what an ultrabook is. When you combine that with the poor marketing efforts, you have a tough sell.

Additionally — and this is just one man’s opinion — the term “ultrabook” isn’t the strongest name for this type of laptop. When people see an ultrabook, they think “laptop.” It looks like a laptop, is portable like a laptop, has a hinge like a laptop. To them, it is a laptop. The term ultrabook doesn’t provide any real imagery to help them discern the difference. In fact, when combined with the higher price, the name makes the product seem like a top of the line device that most consumers simply do not need.

5. Lack of touchscreen

While ultrabooks haven’t sold, tablets have sold in droves. People seemingly love them. There are many good reasons for this, but chief among them are portability and the touchscreen. Ultrabooks have the first aspect. They are far more portable than traditional laptops, since they are lighter and thinner. But most ultrabooks do not contain touchscreens. Consumers might be more willing to consider them if they are more of a hybrid between laptops and tablets, rather than just being smaller laptops.

There are, to be sure, good reasons why ultrabooks do not have touchscreens. Again, since they typically run Windows software, there are compatibility issues. Yet it behooves manufacturers to work to create a solution. Consumers clearly want touchscreen devices. They are intuitive, and they are fun. If manufacturers want to sell more ultrabooks, they will likely have to find way to make touchscreens work. On this point the market has spoken loudly and clearly.

The market is down on ultrabooks at the moment, but it doesn’t have to remain that way. Manufacturers of ultrabooks have many avenues to increase sales. They will take considerable effort, of course, but they’re within the realm of possibility. If we see improvements in any two of the five items listed above, we could yet see ultrabook sales improve.

We have seen a lot of SEO developments recently; from search engine algorithm improvements and penalties, to the ever-changing responsibility of the SEO marketer and how his role has changed. This has left a lot of online marketing companies uncertain of what to do and what they should be focusing on, trying to figure out what is important and what really defines good SEO. Here are a few very useful and important tools that can help to rank your sites well:

Tool #1: Social Media Sharing

This has become an invaluable tool to online marketers. One of the best ways of achieving success here is to create a list of goals to help you stay on track and assess your progress. For example, keep an eye on the number of shares that each of your blog posts receives, and set a realistic goal for the amount of shares you would like each post to achieve. Remember, before you publish any post or article, ask yourself whether your headline is as good and attention grabbing as it can possibly be, and whether it is optimized for sharing on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.

Tool #2: Clever Website Design

Remember that Google wants to give value to its users. This is why it is so important to design your site with human users in mind. Do not simply design a page for search engine robots or software, as this will not be good enough to reach the top result pages; rather optimize your site so that humans will enjoy what you offer and find value when reading your pages. Here are a few things you can do to improve your website design for your visitors:

Improve your page load speed

Make use of breadcrumbs

Limit your ad space

Reduce over-usage of graphics

Remember that if your website gives human visitors what they want, you will automatically deliver value to search engines and naturally increase your rankings.

Tool #3: An Authority Website

When we talk about an authority website, we are referring to a site that provides exceptional content and has a reputation for being a relevant source of information on a specific topic or industry. Of course with this comes a sophisticated website with a good domain age as well. When you build a website, you should keep this in mind, as this is the goal that you should work towards. There are a few key aspects that determine whether you have an authority website:

Age – The age of your website’s domain.

Content – The quality of content that the website contains.

Reputation – This refers to whether the site adheres to Google’s guidelines.

Although you cannot control every aspect of your website, for example its age, you can make sure that you spend time on other important parts. Make sure that you always have quality content on your site and that you regularly update the site, as this is essential to maintain and improve your rankings. Also consider to use a variety of formats such as text, videos and presentations.

Tool #4: Attract Quality Links

Link building is very important to any marketer’s SEO campaign, as this is a good indication to Google on how popular and successful your site is. Although inbound links are always important, but it is links from high authority sources that really matters. Here are a few ways to attract high authority links:

Write high quality content that will naturally attracts in-content links

Provide guest posts to relevant sites that will provide a link back to your site

Offer to replace dead links of popular blogs, by writing new content they can link to

Write a community post or report on an event, then inform .gov sites so that they might link to it.

By investing your time in links from high authority sites, you will always benefit from it and it has to form part of your long term marketing goals. This will soon pay off, and your website’s ranking and authority will drastically improve as time passes.

Tool #5: Invest in Long Term Goals

Implement SEO strategies that can provide you with long term results, as opposed to only focusing on short-term strategies. For example, stop chasing algorithm changes, as they change so often that you will never be completely up to date. It is estimated that Google makes algorithm changes every 17 hours, so you will be very busy if you chase these.

Quality content and continuous adherence to the basic rules will see your rankings steadily increase – and continue to increase – as time passes. Don’t expect changes to improve your rankings in a few days, be patient and stick to what works, you will be glad you did.

Let’s face it – nobody’s perfect, not even the new iOS 6 mobile operating system from Apple that was launched on September 21, 2012. Although there’s a lot to love about this new iOS, it also comes with some flaws. Some of these flaws are well known by now, while there are some others that are not rated as an epic flaw.

For example – Apple’s new Maps app, that replaced the existing Google Maps app, has been criticized widely since the upgrade was made available. But that’s not the only flaw you can find in the all new iOS. There are a few other things that you need to know about. These include – inconsistent fonts and colors, calendar alerts and a redesigned App Store. Want to know about it all? Read on -

1. Confined App Store

Some will say that the Apple App Store’s makeover is easy and attractive to the eyes, there are some not so attractive facts about it. For example; search results are limited to just one at a time via the iPhone, so you need to spend time scrolling for more. Theoretically, it’s good to emphasize quality over quantity, but this time, it did not quite hit it. Apart from that, the layout is a bit restricted.

2. Maps Apps

May be we have nothing new to add to this one – Apple’s new Maps app has been the most discussed (with much dissatisfaction) new feature on iOS 6 so far. The app lacks transit directions and according to the users, the mapping imagery includes a perplexing cluster of broken roads, misleading clouds and national monuments. Now, that’s the most epic flaw this OS has.

3. YouTube App

OK, the Google Maps app is missing from iOS 6, but what else is missing? The Google-owned YouTube app is gone too, haven’t you noticed? The good news is, unlike Google Maps, a new improved version is downloadable via the Apple App Store.

4. Too Much Facebook

Apple opened up social integration to Facebook, which means users will get to share pictures and post status updates without logging into the app. It also merges your Facebook contacts and calendar automatically. However, it’s possible to turn off the default function.

5. Inconsistent Fonts

The ‘Find My iPhone’ feature includes a font the users haven’t seen on iOS before, and it’s unpredictability with the rest of the software has confused many. It’s not a very big issue with the phone, but then again it’s iPhone 5 we are talking about – and we’ll settle for nothing less.
These are some of the flaws that you can find in an iPhone 5. But that did not let the popularity of this new Smartphone from Apple drop. The phone has been one of the most popular phones in the history of Smartphones. We sincerely hope that most of these problems will be sorted out in the next version of iPhone. As for the map app, we have good news for you – Google is reportedly making a map app for the iOS 6 and it will be available in the app store pretty soon. Epic problem – resolved.

Collaboration technologies are at the very core of any modern business. These services allow for a faster and easier passing of information, let you upload data in a matter of seconds, work on documents, share your knowledge and leave comments. Most of the people who use collaboration tools admit its value. However many businesses still question the feasibility of collaboration tools. Why does this happen? How do you make a client appreciate a collaborative digital environment? We will try to give some advice as to how to answer these questions and make collaboration tools help your company.

United versus uncoordinated tools

Before companies started providing complex cloud platform, many businesses have already used tools which enriched their collaboration techniques. Mostly those were instant messengers and e-mail (today we can also add social platforms to this list). You could still use email and other services for collaboration now, but all those scattered tools work separately and lack the unity that is vital for a successful business.

While considering their options, businesses should take into account the following benefits of the cloud management services:

One supplier. While separate collaboration tools can be effective they all come from different suppliers, which makes management and support very difficult for the IT-department. United collaboration tool is managed by one company that provides all the necessary software, usually in the form of a browser-based environment (like TeamWox). Most suppliers of collaboration solutions can help you customize your platform, so that you could choose the tools you need the most.

Common information storage. While using collaboration SaaS you can have all the information you need stored right in the cloud. There is no need to switch between different solutions to download or upload data, or to go to a separate app to comment on the task. With a collaboration platform you can do all those things from any place, using any device you like.

Sharing knowledge. One of the main reasons why workers do not want to collaborate is their reluctance to share knowledge. Separate communication technologies divide the workers in the office. Unified collaboration platform stimulates the employees to work together and have a common experience.

Staying mobile. Forrester Research stated in 2011, that only a small percent of office workers tend to use SaaS in their everyday routine. The situation drastically changes when we consider the usage of cloud platforms by workers who spend their time commuting, working from home, from client’s site or from the road while in transit. Such consumers tend to use collaboration technologies the most. Therefore, companies need to use SaaS as they provide a unified working environment for all types of devices including desktop computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets, that become increasingly popular among mobile workers all around the world. Separate collaboration tools like email or IM, simply couldn’t provide the necessary level of support for users on different platforms.

Agility. Collaboration SaaS according to the latest Forrester Research published on 16th of August 2012 improve business agility. This particular quality of cloud systems is more important to the early adopters of the technology than new functions or speed. Agility becomes essential in today’s business landscape, as the weak and changing economy forces many big companies to quickly change their strategic direction. To do so one has to use tools that allow employees to easily share information will colleagues, as well as with those outside the corporate firewall: partners, suppliers, clients. Such systems enrich collective work and save time and money.

How to implement the SaaS in your working environment?

The advantages mentioned above however do not seem to be convincing for IT-departments of big companies. Specialists share many fears about the cloud. Security concerns, poor integration with the existing software to name a few. But one of the most important factors that stop the spreading of the cloud is the question: Are those services enterprise-ready? We think that the main question here is different. The barrier between cloud collaboration technologies and the business is created by the worker. Often people in big companies just don’t see any value in using collaboration technologies. They feel that SaaS-platforms simply are unnecessary for completing everyday tasks.

This happens because of two factors:

Lack of leadership

Lack of training

To drive the implementation of collaborating services you have to have strong leadership. Both members of team management and high corporate management have to use these services. By doing so, they will ensure the involvement of the employees in the collaboration environment. However, this will be impossible without the required training. Therefore, before implementing an enterprise-wide integration of the cloud system you have to make sure that your employees really understand how to work with it. And the more they learn, the more valuable the service will become to them. Research show, that you could even increase the value of collaboration platforms if you continue to add more functions and provide more services. This is essential for the success of cloud platforms on enterprise level.

***

While modern collaboration solutions provide many advantages in speed, mobility, agility, companies still feel reluctant to use these products. To change this attitude managers have to alter their way of thinking, by teaching employees the benefits of cloud platforms and by using these solutions themselves to better understand and facilitate their further implementation. Without collaboration platforms businesses will fall behind other smaller companies that maintain the speed, scalability and integration required to succeed in the harsh realities of the modern world.

Most of us have used our phones as music players at some point, but we can also use them to share our tastes and get more info on our favourite artists and related music events. Here is a list of five favourite music apps for android:

Last.fm

This is a mobile phone optimized version of the popular Last.fm social network. In some countries, it can be used as a personal radio station on your phone- all you need to do is choose an artist or genre and the app will build a playlist catering to your taste. You can learn about your favourite artists or discover new ones similar to them. You can use the scrobbler feature to share your music taste or you can sync your last.fm friends with your contacts. You can also find out about upcoming events in your area if you apply the GPS feature. Some phones will need you to install a third party media player so that you can use the scrobbling feature, though.

Google Play Music

This free app is currently available in the US only. With it, you can shop for music on Google Play and instantly listen to it on your phone or on your tablet. You can also add up to 20000 of your songs for free or look for something new on the web. All the music you obtain is stored online so storage space and syncing is not a problem. Your favourites can also be accessed offline and shared with your friends on Google +.

Poweramp Music Player

This is definitely one of the most loved music players. It plays mp3, mp4/m4a, ogg, wma, flac, wav, ape, ww, tta, mpc and aiff and has an optimized equalizer and a separate bass and treble adjustment, crossfade, replay gain etc. It plays songs from folders or from library and downloads missing album art, has a tag editor and includes a scrobbling feature. The app is full of customisation options and has 4 configurable widget types. You are encouraged to try the 15 day trial version and see for yourself whether the app deserves all the praise it is getting.

Winamp

This is a tried and tested player, frequently opted for as the default one. It plays, manages and syncs music from your Mac or PC to your Android, featuring wireless desktop sync. It also offers iTunes library import and access to thousands of online radio stations with the SHOUTcast feature. Its other core features include: an easily collapsible/expandable now playing screen, album art, artist news, bios photos and discographies, playlists and playlist shortcuts, free music streaming, integrated Android Search and “Listen to” voice action etc. The Pro Bundle comes without adds, with personalized station recommendations and many more features continually added.

Vevo

Vevo is a platform for those who enjoy watching music videos. This app boasts a collection of 50 000 music videos from over 11 000 artists. It works over 3G network connection but its full potential is realized via Wi-Fi as that ensures the highest quality. It includes exclusive videos, premieres, top charts and playlists, and info on tours. The videos can be shared with friends via Facebook and Twitter and searched using the voice control feature or via your android search button. The app is simple to use, to the point and on top of everything- it is free.

Like most other aspects of our lives, apps have also revolutionized our music listening experience and our smartphones have largely replaced our stereos – for better or for worse. Luckily, most apps have built-in sharing features so music will still stay the thing that “makes the people come together”, as one of the modern music icons once suggested.

For decades, we’ve seen the idea of the “smart house” referenced in popular culture. From the Jetsons to Tony Stark’s virtual butler to a smart house that’s out to get revenge on its inhabitants, the technology has mostly been science fiction rather than something you can have in real life.

That’s changing, and changing quickly. Smart home technology is making its way into the marketplace, and at a price point that a large segment of the population can actually afford.

Here are some of today’s smart home gadgets and technologies that are changing how we deal with our homes:

• Smart lighting.

Today’s homeowners have a number of ways to interact with the lighting in their homes. We have motion detectors that will turn lights on and off based on whether someone’s in the room. We have light sensors that will automatically dim or brighten a given light based on the amount of daylight in the room. We have remote controls that can activate outlets, dim lights, turn off ceiling fans, and more. As time goes on, we’re seeing more and more of these functions integrated into whole-home management systems, too.

• Smart heating and cooling.

Programmable thermostats are one of the most inexpensive money-saving smart home gadgets you can buy. There are much more advanced solutions, however. For example, some heating and cooling systems can be paired with a home management system to allow you remote access to your heating and cooling. That means you can turn the furnace back on when you’re an hour away from returning to the frozen north after visiting some tropical climate over spring break, for example.

• Smart security.

Perhaps more than any other area, we’ve seen significant technological advances in security systems in the past decade. Wireless systems mean no more running wires through the house. Smart add-on devices – like some of the ones discussed above – have turned security systems into home management systems. Remote access from your smartphone lets you arm or disarm your system, or even view your security cameras, remotely.
Going forward, these trends are going to mean some significant changes in how we interact with our homes.

For example, we’re going to be much less concerned on a day-by-day or moment-by-moment basis with how our home functions. Rooms will be the right temperature when we enter. Lights will come on, and at the right light.

We’re also going to see more advanced interfaces. Today’s smartphone interfaces that control smart home gadgets will become more advanced. Voice recognition software means that we’ll start to see more and more home management systems and devices that we can simply talk to instead of programming or interacting via a keypad or application.
This trend also means savings on power. We’ll see more and more efficiency squeezed out of every light bulb and electrical outlet, and our homes will get really good at not wasting heating and cooling.

These smart home technologies are truly changing the way we live on a daily basis, and those changes will become even more pronounced as time goes on.

Here is a list of ten web development tools that you may use on your iPhone. One is no better than the other is. The numbers do not indicate their rank or usefulness.

In today’s technology-ridden society, people no longer “look things up” in encyclopedias or even search engines. “Google” has become a verb, replacing all other synonyms and being used even when that particular search engine is not. Google’s competitors are fighting to achieve the same status. Since search engines basically have the power to decide what websites are found and which are hidden in the vast wasteland that is the internet, website owners are finding it necessary to pander to the search engines’ desires.

It is therefore understandable that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a growing industry. SEO executives simply need to identify what search engines want and find a way to give that to their client. The already over-used trope seems to be “Content is King.” Google has been clear that they want to point people to quality sites with quality content. How is quality determined though?

This is where off-site SEO comes in. While it is important to make sure you have a quality website, it will be seen as more useful if there are more links leading to it. Certainly the first step is to have a website that people will want to link to. But there are a lot of great websites out there with very few viewers, and as you are probably aware, many spam-ridden, useless sites that somehow manage to get thousands of unsuspecting visitors a day.

The reason off-site SEO is important is because of the idea of community. If reputable people are recommending your website, search engines will take that as a sign that your site is reputable as well. This is why paying for links is being penalized. After all, if you’re paying to be recommended, you are skewing the results. Search engines don’t mind you making changes to go up in the rankings; they just want them to be changes that benefit the user.

Guest Posting is one method that many people are utilizing for its link-building benefits. Posting on established blogs is a great way to show that other people appreciate your content and get more traffic to your website. After all, posting on your own blog will only reach the audience you’ve already established. Guest Posting is a form of outreach as well as an SEO tactic.

As with all things, especially where the internet is involved, guest posting can be abused. People utilize the opportunity to get links on other sites, but post useless, irrelevant content. Do not fall into this trap. The number of links you get is not going to matter if they all get penalized by search engines.

The greatest benefit of using white-hat SEO techniques is that it is an easy way to multi-task. By optimizing your website to search engines, you are also making it user-friendly, drawing in people who would not have seen your site otherwise, and providing quality content. Making these long-lasting changes will have a much more powerful effect than just spamming article directories and link farms with obvious links to your site.

Writers are not the only ones who abuse guest posting in order to boost their SEO. Site owners that accept guest posts can also be guilty. In your search for places to post, you will find entire sites dedicated to guest posts. Many of them will not even be relevant to the topic of the website, or the website won’t even have a topic. These sites are just trying to get a high page rank or domain authority without doing any work of their own.

Your content is going to be associated with the website it is posted on. If it is on a low-quality site, people will assume your site is low quality as well. If your article has nothing to do with the objective of the website, or if all of the articles seem to be unrelated, search engines will take that into account.

Make sure you post high-quality content on high-quality websites. It will be more work to get links on these pages, but it will be well worth it. Put time and effort into your work and have it published by people who do the same. By building relationships with blog-owners that actually moderate their blogs, you are also embedding yourself in the online community of your niche. Networking is never a bad thing, and guest posting can be a great way to network.

Guest posting is not the end-all-be-all of link building. Any opportunity you have to get a quality link on a niche-related site, you should take it. This could be in a weekly round-up that a blogger does, profile links, or simply a recommendation by another blogger. Before you seek links you should read Google’s guidelines to make sure that the links you get follow their rules.

By seeking links in these natural ways, you are joining the community that your blog or website caters to. Of course, make sure your blog offers its own quality content, because driving traffic is only the first step. Keeping that traffic is a whole different story altogether, one that can only have a happy ending if the information you provide is relevant, useful, and entertaining. The internet is a community. It takes a village to raise a PageRank.
