Many of us who use Microsoft Outlook as our email client pay very little attention to our Sent Items folder. That folder stores all emails you ever send. The size of the folder can get quite huge and, most of the time, you have no reason to hang onto the older messages. Well, you can automatically purge them, saving you the time.
In Outlook, go to Tools / Options. Click on the Other tab and choose AutoArchive. If AutoArchive is not enabled, you will need to enable it by checking “Run AutoArchive every…” and choose an interval. Then you can choose your options. For other email clients, you can simply sort your sent items by date and then delete the older items in one batch.
Additionally, you can also view the size of each message. In Outlook, go to View / Current View / Customize Current View. Choose “Fields”, then select the Size field and move it over. Save your changes and then your message list will show the size of each email.
