Awesome Utility: WinPatrolToGo

I have mentioned in previous posts, the only security program I use on my computers is WinPatrol. I do this because it is lightweight, non-intrusive and provides all the protection I (personally) need. So when I found WinPatrolToGo, I immediately added this to my flash drive:

This single exe portable version of WinPatrol is designed to run from a USB flash drive or other portable device without leaving any left over files or registry entries on the computer being optimized.

It basically is a PC security clean-up utility which leaves no footprint on the target computer. This is ideal for techs who clean or maintain other people’s systems as it can do all of the following:

  • Remove Un-Wanted Auto Start crapware.
  • Disable Un-Needed Automatic Windows Services
  • Remove Annoying Toolbars and BHO’s
  • Create Reports that provide a snapshot of potential problems
  • Disable ActiveX Controls & MORE!
    Compatible with Windows 95 – Windows 7

This is definitely something you want to have handy.

    Dave,

I resent everytime I click on a link from your newsletter I get a pop up box inviting me to sign up for you newsletter. Seems like one copy should be enough. Can you figure out a way to set a cookie or something to stop this action, or can you suggest a better pop up blocker than I am currently using?

I tend to agree….its the “in your face” advertising that pisses people off. Advertising off to the side I have no problem with. Just to be clear, I understand the necessity of advertising, I am a capitalist as well, but disagree with the more obnoxious forms of advertising.

Is WinPatrol freeware, trialware or payfor software?

  • David M

I will never buy any product which uses obnoxious advertising. My thoughts are, why encourage bad behavior?

If WinPatrol is free I would give it a try. There is so much excellent free anti-malware software out there that it does not make any sense to pay for it.

An edit feature would be handy. :D

WinPatrol has a free and Plus version. I use the free version.
As for advertising, I have never seen any ads in the WinPatrol software (other than the link for you to buy the Plus version), so I’m not sure what you mean here…
