Bandwidth-Friendly Firefox Browsing With ImgLikeOpera And Flashblock

“Bandwidth conservation” is becoming more of a reality for many with more ISPs imposing strict bandwidth caps.

It’s easy enough to instruct a browser not to download images or Flash content, however the way in which it’s done is inconvenient at best.

The video below shows how to use a combination of two Firefox add-ons, Flashblock and ImgLikeOpera, to make bandwidth-friendly surfing both easy and convenient.

One final note before you watch the video: Script disabling such as with NoScript doesn’t really help you save any bandwidth, and furthermore makes a lot of web sites unusable. Remember, scripts are needed to run webmail, most comment forms and so on. The scripts are just text and really don’t use any more bandwidth than text does. It’s the images and Flash that use more bandwidth than anything else while browsing.
