The latest Facebook feature, Places, when enabled broadcasts your current location:
Easily share where you are, what you’re doing and the friends you’re with right from your mobile.
- Check in and your update will appear on the Place page, your friends’ News Feed and your Wall.
- Tag the friends you’re with so they can be part of your update.
- Appear in “Here Now” to friends and others nearby who are also checked in.
Of course, if you are Facebook user this is turned on by default which means your friends can now update everyone to where you are (see item #2). Needless to say, this is a feature you may not want turned on, so here is how you disable it.
This is potentially yet another privacy fiasco Facebook has brought upon themselves (and further reinforces my decision to stay away from them). The question is do their users even care or is there just an understanding that this type of stuff comes with the territory of using Facebook?
So what do you think of this new feature?
