Benchmark your PC with the System Requirements Lab

Honestly, the website I’m about to tell you about is really something everyone who’s ever been into PC gaming should be aware of – yet there are still some people who don’t actually know the site exists. That should change.

Gaming’s pretty tough on your PC. Games software, particularly modern games software, requires a fair bit of computing power to run effectively, let alone flawlessly. As a result, most people who game know the specs of their system, as a general rule. Those who don’t, should. From there, it’s usually a simple matter of looking at the required and recommended specs (which should be on the back of the case for physical copies, or on the game’s web page in the case of digital downloads).

But what about those of you who don’t know their specs off the top of their head, or can’t find the stats for a particular title? There’s a website for that, actually. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the System Requirements Lab. Key in the title of the game you want to play (or search it out from the drop-down menu) and make sure you’ve got java enabled. It’ll then measure everything about your system that’s relevant to gameplay- from the system’s software, to available RAM, graphics card, and Hard Drive space.  You can look at both the minimum and recommended specs for the game, get upgrade suggestions, download the latest drivers for your OS and Video Card, and check out available locations where the title’s sold.

It’s a tool that’s pretty invaluable if you aren’t one hundred percent certain about your system’s capabilities or you simply don’t care to search out all the details for a particular title. Naturally, it doesn’t account for client issues or graphics card compatibility issues one hundred percent of the time, but it’s handy, nonetheless.
