Build Your Own MP3 Player

Posted Dec 21, 2007 by Jason Faulkner

Do you dislike the look of [insert MP3 player here] or hate that you have to use [insert music software here] in order to communicate with your MP3 player? If so, build your own.

The Daisy MP3 Project is a true open source portable MP3 player device. Basically you download all the required schematics from the site, order the hardware (currently will cost a little over $100) and then build it. The player works on standard flash storage devices so you can have as much space as you need for your music. Also, since the project is open source, you can use it anything you can think of, from a personally MP3 player to a museum voice “tour guide”.

While, realistically, I would just buy an MP3 player and am not going to sit down and do this, I have to admit the idea is really cool and would be a perfect for any geek you know.
