Build Your Own USB Devices

The U in USB stands for Universal which is a very good word to use considering the vast array of devices which work via these plugs. For those of you who like to hack your own hardware, you can build your own USB powered devices. For some ideas and help on getting started, check out this MaximumPC guide.

The guide has several other projects you can try, but I found the USB devices to be the most interesting. I think the portable battery charger is pretty awesome. Of course, you will need to be comfortable around rewiring electronics and power sources but overall we aren’t working with enough juice to really hurt you.

Has anyone ever build their own hardware? If so, what did you build?

  1. I’ve never built anything, but after reading this, and that other article I’m going to try. The fan’s a neat idea, especially for me since my office can get a little stuffy.
