It is called Cardmobili. Basically, it is a way to store all those loyalty card programs on your smartphone rather than cluttering up your wallet with the cards. You know the ones…. the frequent shopper card for your grocery store, your “Best Buy Rewards” card, etc.

There are limitations to the kinds of cards it will work with. According to their FAQ,
There are two types of cards that can’t be transferred into your mobile phone, as this feature isn’t available yet: payment cards and cards which store your point balance: a card which is stamped when you make a purchase at a store.
Basically, if all that’s needed on the card is a number or bardcode, you can store it in the cloud using CardMobili.
Personally, I think this is a beginning to much more such uses for the smartphones. It won’t be long until it won’t be uncommon to be able to pay bills at the stores using your smartphone.
But, for now, if you’re a bargain shopper who uses loyalty cards and carries a smartphone, you might want to check out CardMobili. It works on iPhone, Windows Mobile, Blackberry and Android and even Symbian (Nokia’s OS).

If the cashier could scan it while you are holding it, then it’s feasible. If you have to hand over your phone so they can scan it, then you risk them dropping it and causing damage.
Thank you for your article – it as a really great tip for people like me who carry a bunch of cards in their wallets. I’ve downloaded their iphone app, and just used at CVS – it worked! Great stuff!
