Out of the box, Windows will only allow you to change icons for your shortcuts only (outside of being able to change My Computer, etc. via themes), but what if you want to change the icon of individual files (i.e. a TXT, DOC, XLS, etc. file) to, for example, make them stand out? If this sounds like something you would like then give Icon Changer a try.
In addition to being able to change individual files, Icon Changer will also scan your system for icon files and allows you to create a library of your favorites for easy future use.
While changing icons is purely cosmetic, doing so is an easy way to make files stand out or add flair to existing files without having to create shortcuts just to get this ability.
