Well, as I sit here on a Friday afternoon, PCMech and the other sites on this server have been through a bunch of gyrations. About 36 hours ago, we switched publishing platforms here on PC Mechanic. We have moved to the Wordpress blogging platform. I am confident this is going to be a good move for us, and I had strategic reasons for doing it. However, with any large software change comes unexpected problems. Namely:
- Some of the images in our articles are not showing up
- Some of the plug-ins we are using for Wordpress need adjustments because of bugs
- Wordpress is placing much higher load on PHP so therefore our server is operating at much higher load than it was and, hence, is slower. We are working on this issue, but as we do so, the sites sometimes pop offline.
Nobody said switching platforms was easy, but once we’ve ironed out the bugs, I’m sure this is going to make for a better PCMech. A site as large and popular as this one doesn’t exactly turn on a dime. ![]()
