thinking about a usb tv card for toshiba a305 series s6844 model psag4u-01woop,,,i know verry little about comp just email friends and watch tv..just want to know if it is simple to operate,will it work on this comp,do i have to be online,what brand do i buy ,where to buy,houw much,,thanks for any and all help,,jesse

Unfortunately I’ve no personal experience with Freesat – it’s something I’m thinking of looking at soon but time has been the stalling point so far!

Although I have no personal experience with it myself, I’ve noticed this product being advertised on the Hauppauge website recently:

It’s certainly something I’ll be looking at in the future, maybe it will do what you want it to as well. In the meantime, you’d probably be best posting on an audio/video forum to chat with someone who’s actually working with this stuff. I would suggest our own forums, but with mostly US members, there might not be many people familiar with Freesat. It might be worth you looking at the ‘avforums’ in particular.

H, I am wanting to upgrade the TV tuner card in my PC. I have read the comments and the questions that apply to me are unanswered. I have a Freesat box here in the UK, it has SPDIF out, I am using this for audio out to my sound system and HDMI out to my HDLCTV. I want to change from the dual analog card to one that has the connectivity that I require. The one I have has coax in and SPDIF out via the sound card in the PC. It uses Power Cinema software. Its rubbish realy. I want to buy a top end product that will do everything a seperate DVD recorder will. Can you help?

Hi there.

What you’re seeing in the second picture is actually a video card with a DVI *output*, not a tuner card with a DVI input. I can’t immediately think why you’d want a tuner card with that function – but please register and post your question in the Multimedia section of our forums (http://forum.pcmech.com/), and I’ll try and help you out.

Just got a new HP with TV Tuner Card & a beautiful Hi-Def monitor..Problem: Tuner Card only has S-Video & L/R Audio inputs & Dish Network Hi-Def Rcvr output is HDMI..OK, I can get a conversion cable to DVI/L-R Audio, but I can’t find a TV Tuner Card with DVI input…Seems you’ve got a picture of one in your article…Where can I get it…HELP!

Excellent advice, i’ve recently purchased a tv card and am in the process of getting a media pc up and running. Is there any chance / scope to have some sort of guide to the different bits of software out there, you mention a few in the article, just like a review or indication of features (particulalrly the free ones) trawling the net brings up plenty but i dont really havea clue about the reputable or useful ones.
