“Clean Dave’s Closet” Giveaway

Posted Nov 4, 2008 | by David Risley

Like any geek, I’ve got a closet full of stuff that I just don’t use anymore. But, it is good stuff. Might be a little old, but hell – it is cool and it is free. To you, anyway…

So, I’m going to hold some giveaways, and this week I am going to start out with 5 items.

OK, so what do you need to do to enter? Just leave a comment on this blog post that answers this question:

If you could learn how to do one thing with your computer, what would it be?

When this contest ends on Monday, November 10th, I will go through all entries and pick the ones I like best.

Now, I’m going to throw in some optional bonuses here. These are some things which you can do and I’ll give your submission more weight if you do them. They are:

  1. Follow me on Twitter. If you’re already following me, you’re one step ahead. If not, feel free.
  2. Befriend me on Facebook.
  3. Become a fan of PCMECH on Facebook.
  4. Create a quick video testimonial telling us what you think of PCMECH, why you came here, etc. You can post that video anywhere you want. Be creative – it is YOUR video. But, since it takes a few more minutes to do up a video, I’m giving more points for this one. Obviously, doing a video might be worth your while!

A video submission is sure to make your entry stand out to me. And for those of you who do a video, I will be giving away a one-year membership to PCMech University to the best one. So, not only do you increase your chances of winning one of these items, but you can join our premium membership program as well. And don’t worry – if you are already a paid member of our site, I will extend your current membership one year at no charge.

But, alas, if you cannot or don’t feel like making a video, that’s fine. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post answering the question above.

One last thing…

Since these possible bonus actions can be on multiple sites, you’re going to need to post links in your comment on this post to your Twitter profile, your Facebook profile, and your video. Just copy the URLs and paste them right into your comment on this post. If you don’t do this for me, I might not actually see your points.

I will be ending this contest on Monday of next week. When I do, I’ll review your answers to this question. I’ll be looking for solid input that we can actually use to provide value to this website. And I will give extra weight to your submission if you do any of the actions laid out above. And if you make a video – dude! – you’ll be cool!

Hopefully that’s not too difficult for anybody to figure out. I try to do something unique for every giveaway.

So, tell us what one thing you want to learn how to do with your computer.

Which Of These Traits Applies To YOUR Computing Life?...

That most desirable thing is good class “blind typing” skills. For I can type not even looking to keyboard and make many characters per minute. LOL

  2. Richard says:

Total home surveillance / security wireless encrypted, along with home automation via computer.

  3. Darrell Clary says:

The most desirable thing I would like to do with my computer is to make money on the internet. To stay home and automate the process of income. You hear about all these people doing it but mostly they are scams against people like myself looking to make a living from the internet. I am sure there are plenty people out there only working a couple of ours a day making more in a month than I make in a year. I would just like to know how to do this.

  4. Richard Loper says:

After clicking on the link a few times and going to an ad for something or other and now back to the giveaway page it seems like my answer to the question is how to know where to start with a computer reapir of software if doing crazy things like this computer is doing right now?

    • Sharron Field says:

It sounds to me like you’re being hit by those bloody Zwinky full-page ads from TribalFusion by the sound of it. Are you logged in? If you are you won’t see them: I’m just guessing at the problem in an attempt to be helpful.

  5. The one thing I would love to learn most on my computer is how to code. I am new to the whole “internet” and recently started a few websites. I can’t customize them because I don’t know enough about the stuff to really get in there and do what I’d like to do. I just think it is so cool to see people “code” their own websites and pages oh and games. It’s phenomenol!!!!

Thanks so much for the giveaway too! Everything you have up for grabs can be used so much here in my home so I will be crossing my fingers for this!!!!

For the record; I have done a few of the extras too:

I befriended you on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1192901977&ref=profile

Oh yeah, I am also following you on twitter now too:

As an intermediate computer user who is the family tech guy, I am charged with up-keeping 19 computers. Any thoughts or ideas that will help me stream-line this process and in particular troubleshooting Windows OS problems are always helpful. An article on a detailed way to use Barts PE or some similar ghost program to help get computers back up and running would be great. The majority of your tips are informative, helpful and appreciated
    Thanks

2td comment. The Nino modem no longer supports it’s use or can it be used as a internet item. But it does have a good voice recorder, which is why I got mine a decade ago. I have gotten 3 or 4 different PDA since then
