CO2 Saver

Posted Jan 1, 2008 by Jason Faulkner

In follow up to my previous post regarding an article about ways to cut down on power use in your home/office, I found a neat gadget called CO2 Saver. CO2 Saver is basically a small program which adjusts your computer settings for maximum power efficiency and calculates how much power you (and other users) are saving. As their website states:

CO2 Saver is a lightweight application that runs in Windows. It adjusts your Windows power settings so that your computer, monitor and hard drive consume less electricity when you’re not actively using them. It calculates how much power is saved, and converts it into pounds of CO2 emissions prevented by having the toolbar installed. You see the amount of CO2 saved by yourself and all toolbar users together.

While I do everything I can to help conserve energy, I have not personally used this program. The installation seems easy enough and it even includes a built in search option in case you don’t have a widget which does this. The program is completely free to use, so if you are wanting to track how much more of a difference you are making (read the FAQ), give it a try.
