Control IE Window Size

Many Internet Explorer users have opened their browser only to find that the size of the window is pretty strange, forcing you to resize it or maximize it before you can use it. Well, you can fix it.

To control the size of primary and secondary IE windows, start by closing all IE windows. Then launch IE, right-click on any link, and choose Open in New Window. Size the secondary window the way you want all such windows to be. Now close it by clicking on the X icon at the top-right corner while holding down the Shift key. Repeat this for the primary window that remains. You may have to repeat the process from time to time.

If you always want your home page to open in precisely the same size and position, you can add a little JavaScript to the home page URL. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu and edit the Address line in the Home Page panel so it looks something like this: javascript:resizeTo(1024,400); moveTo(0,0);document.location.href=’http://www.pcmech.com’.

You can do the same for favorites as well.

NOTE: The tip that went out on 10/10 regarding using FTP to transfer large files requires a bit of an addition. It should be noted that some ISPs have rules regarding setting up FTP servers on their network. This is done to preserve bandwidth and the integrity and speed of their network. Anybody who wishes to set their PC up as an FTP server should first look into the rules of their ISP.
