I saw a really cool web site which allows you to upload a typical 2D photograph and have it rendered into a 3D model. You can then watch a “fly-by” of the resulting 3D model.

The web site is called Make3D.  There are several video demos on the site when you visit so you can get an idea of what to expect. This is definitely worth checking out.
