Sometimes it’s the simple things that make our digital lives a whole lot easier, and the Mailto: extension for Google Chrome is definitely one of them.
Situation: You go to a web site where there’s a clickable email address. You click it, and what happens is that a mail program (Windows Live Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) launches, but that’s not what you wanted to happen. Instead, you’d much prefer it if on click of an email address your webmail launches instead.
Fortunately, the Mailto: extension makes this happen very easily in just a few clicks.
First, you download the extension.
Second, you choose your mail provider:

When you select your mail provider, you’ll see a little blue "Saved!" notice – but hang on, you’re not quite done yet.
Third, close all instances of the Chrome browser and re-launch (just the browser, a computer restart is not required).
You’re done at this point. Any linked email address you click on any web page will by default go to your webmail for new-mail composition.
