Customize Recycle Bin Behavior

Posted Jan 13, 2007 by David Risley

Any Windows user is probably very familiar with the Recycle Bin. Sometimes it can really come in handy when you accidentally delete important files.

Did you know you can customize properties of the Recycle Bin in order to fit your needs as well as disk space? By right clicking on the Recycle Bin and selecting Properties, you can:

- Adjust either the Global tab or you can adjust per drive.
- Select whether or not you want to immediately delete files instead of holding them in the recycle bin.

In general, it is best to not have the Recycle Bin permanently delete files and to use between 5-10 percent (5 for larger drives and 10 for smaller so enough margin of recovery is available) of your hard drive for holding files you may need to eventually recover.
