Detect Websites With Malicious Scripts

As you probably are aware, websites can serve as hosts for malicious scripts. If you are not adequately protected, they can damage your system. One tool to help protect from these infected sites is LinkScanner.

LinkScanner Lite inspects each search result as it is returned to your browser. One of four color-coded icons will appear next to each result.

LinkScanner Lite also allows you to inspect any hyperlink on the Web, at any time, simply by right-clicking on it. LinkScanner Lite will perform its analysis and return a verdict.

This tool is included with AVG’s security tools, so you may already have it.

One note on this is it should be used responsibly. I would recommend you try to use only the on-demand scanner to avoid sending garbage traffic (via the pre-scanner) to websites you might not even visit.

I don’t know if this has been improved recently but after a past upgrade to AVG 8.0 or 8.5 (I believe it was 8.0) I got this feature but disabled it the same day because it made browsing very slow. The prefetching this thing does in the background consumes some bandwidth and if you are not in an ultra fast connection, you will notice right away the difference. Have not turned it on again ever since. People on metered bandwidth beware.

I been using it for some time, and i haven’t attacked by a website since.

I have 3 machines with this software installed. Since upgrading to 8.0/8.5, I get a different result on each computer – and this is after re-installing several times…
MACHINE 1- Vista Laptop – tool works flawlessly
MACHINE 2- XP Pro – ONLY “PAID google results” are checked as “ok” (green) nothing else is checked with anything
MACHINE 3- XP Home – it doesn’t work on ANYTHING – no checks, no colors, nothing (and yes it’s enabled and setup the same on each machine.

I’ve been trying to rectify this situation since it’s inception but have found no helpful suggestions.

    So, I’m skeptical…
