Developer And Power User Utility List

Just about every power user or computer enthusiast has a set of utilities they use to make their life easier. I have posted several of the ones I use frequently as previous tips. So if you are looking for more programs to add to your list then a post you should take a look at is Scott Hanselman’s 2009 Ultimate Developer and Power Users Tool List for Windows.

The list is broken down into several categories and covers a vast array of utilities, most of which are freely available. I actually use several of the ones he has listed. Also, be sure to check out the user comments as several readers posted suggestions of their own.

Nice list, found three that may be of use to me.

I use a MS utiltiy called Desktops. Not having two or more monitors (not enough room) this is an excellent utiltiy. It creates 4 distinct desk top sessions and you can switch between each one. It is especally handy for laptops.

Another one that I use is Set Affinity II, you can set up your DUO, Tripple, or Quad processor threads/progams to run on one or multiple processors. A lot of people don’t know or realize the performance boost from running all the services on one processor (the zero or first processor works best for services because that is where all threads start). That leaves the other processors open for programs that are process heavy. Such as Macromedia, I have a Quad and give Macromedia three processors to do it’s work with.
