Fast-User switching can be an annoying, performance-hindering, and rather useless feature to most people. To disable FUS, go to Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> “Change the Way Users Log On,” then uncheck “Use Fast User Switching.” Though fast-user switching may serve a purpose to those with multiple users on a single computer, it is generally a feature that consumes memory and processing resources by parsing requests from multiple users concurrently; don’t feel bad about disabling it if you don’t need it.
