Let’s say you’re over at your buddy’s place, and you’re both raring to do a bit of gaming. Unfortunately, for you, you left your Xbox at home. As a result, you don’t have your profile with you at the moment- right?
Actually, you do.
The ability to ‘recover’ your gamertag onto another Xbox has been a feature of Xbox Live for several years now. Unfortunately, given the way that Microsoft referred to the process, a lot of folks mistakenly believed that ‘profile recovery’ from one system to another would delete all their data on the other system. That, along with a few other quirks in the system, made it a rarely-used feature. Honestly, it was a lot easier to just carry around a memory card with the ‘tag on it.
Fairly recently; Microsoft’s updated the process, allowing gamers to access their Xbox Live profile wherever they may be. It’s actually incredibly simple to carry out.
Here’s how to do it:
- Press the center button on your 360 controller. On the main window of the Xbox Guide, navigate down to “Download Profile.”
- Enter the Windows Live ID associated with your 360 profile, and the password for that ID. Don’t worry- all the data you’ve got stored on your other system is safe and secure.
- Game away. Note that whenever you log in to your profile, you’ll need to keep your Windows Live Password handy.
