Easy Tip For Web Site Popularity: Go Local

tampa-hello Something that hasn’t changed since the dawn of the modern internet is that people search for the town they live in regularly, be it by name itself and/or postal code.

A common mistake new web site authors make is to try to take on the entire internet all at once. This is a bad idea because it will take way too long to get the traffic results you want – assuming you get any traffic at all.

"Going local" is a time-honored way of easily getting web site hits without any need to promote (or spam). People like local because it gives a sense of familiarity. They will say "Hey, I live there too" and check out to see what you’re all about.

For example, I am a Tampa Florida blogger. The mere fact I put that text in this post means Tampa Bay Florida people will see it, read it and want to know more about this site – because many locals are looking for Tampa Bay specific stuff. You can do the same in your posts and articles by dropping town/state/province names from time to time.

In addition, putting a "weather sticker" on your site also works. If you place one of these in the sidebar on your web site with some text that says "Local weather for [your town here]", that’s an easy way to promote the fact that yes, you’re a local blogger and the search engines will index you as such (and that’s not a bad thing).

There are plenty of weather stickers to choose from. Weather.com, Weather Underground, Weather Pixie and so on. These are all free to use.

Whenever you can, mention your location. If where you live is a small town, pick the nearest metro area. Write about it from time to time.

To note: Web site hits will not come flooding in instantaneously. Getting a web site up in the ranks so-to-speak takes time and effort.
