The title of this post is taken from the tag line of Microsoft’s free WebMatrix offering:
It includes IIS Developer Express (a development Web server), ASP.NET (a Web framework), and SQL Server Compact (an embedded database). It streamlines Web site development and makes it easy to start Web sites from popular open-source apps. The skills and code you develop with WebMatrix transition seamlessly to Visual Studio and SQL Server.
This package really does include everything you need to develop an ASP.NET powered web site as it contains an IDE, web server (for testing) and lightweight SQL database engine all tightly integrated. Additionally, you can download existing projects directly into WebMatrix making the project creation a snap.
I have to say Microsoft is really making a push to get young developers using their products. Between WebMatrix and their free Visual Studio Express products which are very functional but also provide seamless transition to their professional and enterprise Visual Studio and SQL Server tools, it really is a smart move.
