Expect Vista To Have A Quick Swift Death In Late ’09

Judging from the overwhelming positive response from Windows 7 users (including myself), I guess it’s no surprise that Gartner is telling clients to skip Vista entirely and just go straight to 7.

What’s more is that it will happen relatively quickly as Microsoft appears to be on target for a late 2009 launch – and that’s ahead of schedule as it was speculated to appear in 2010.

As many people know, what happens in enterprise is what happens to consumers soon afterward. And when Big Corporate says "Don’t bother with Vista", well.. you know the result.

Dell has said that the price of Windows 7 could possibly be a roadblock, but in the same conversation is also noting that 7 is beating the ever-loving crap out of Vista every which way but loose. One thing is clear: There is legitimate demand for 7 both for consumer and enterprise. But the price point will be a very important factor.

Vista was obviously not an XP killer. But 7 is geared up to be. It will kill off Vista for good, and after a short period of time, XP with it.

Windows 7 will indeed kill Vista fast; and not before time either. My sentiments towards Vista are more “Rot In Hell” then “Rest In Peace”. It was probably the wort OS that Microsoft has ever released; even beating ME in the “WTF is this piece of crap” competition. – It was so bad it nearly finished Microsoft: Even staunch allies Intel refused to use it.
As far as Windows 7 is concerned; I’m predicting an August 2009 RTM date: Just in time for the new school term, and well in advance of the holidays when all that fake joy and goodwill to all BS gets people giving one another new machines pre-loaded with Windows 7.
I feel that Microsoft were buying themselves a rather large cushion, just in case they needed to use it, by initially announcing a 2010 RTM date.
IIRC at the PDC in 2008, Microsoft said that Windows 7 will cost the same price as Windows Vista did when it came out.
- In which case we can expect prices to vary between £50 and £200, depending upon the version. (Do your own math to convert to US$.)
Is it worth it? This time round yes: Those who paid for Vista may feel a bit browned off at paying twice before getting something worth the cost, but the only Vista DVDs I bought were for customers.

ok, it took me almost 6 months to get comfortable with Vista. Now I like it. Way better than XP. And before that I really thought 98se was the most stable on all the systems I have worked on.
However, what I agree with is the lousiest customer service on the planet! Microsoft has stumbled on the way to keep making TONS of money by telling us and getting us to believe that whatever they come with next is the best they have ever done. What a joke! They quit supporting OSs so they can get people to buy more computers or upgrade at an impossible price for the average user. The majority of computer users use their computer like most of us use our brains. 10% That’s all. They do not use all the features of the computer or the operating system.
SO, why, if Microsoft is so good at making OSs, why don’t they just make more software that will work with those OSs??? That is what people really want. Something I can play with on my machine. I have a terrible time finding software for Vista. (there is more now) And my clients can’t afford to upgrade every other year.
FIGHT THE CORPORATE MACHINE!!! DO NOT GET W7!!! KEEP THE MACHINE YOU HAVE!!!! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE MONEY!!!!!!

Windows 7 is still Vista. In fact I think it’s just VistaSE. Any XP software that didn’t run in Vista will not run in Win7. MS has change the GUI which is I like but the bottom line is it is a stripped down Vista or Vista Lite. This was done so it can run on netbooks. In fact the new menus are pretty confusing when trying to find things that are much easier to find in Vista & XP. It appears the PC media is selling out the public probably being paid off by M$.
