Twitter’s been gaining a lot of momentum lately. And why shouldn’t it be? It’s the essence of the modern social network – a constant, online stream of people’s thoughts, opinions, and ideas. A means of sharing cool links and information in a quick, easily-read format. There’s a lot of reasons Twitter’s popular but we’re not going to discuss them here. Rather, we’re going to take a closer look at the platform. Believe it or not, Twitter actually boasts quite a few features that the average user isn’t entirely aware of.
Linking to a Specific Post: I’ve noticed a lot of people asking how to post a link to a specific post on a twitter feed. Maybe you want to quote a celebrity as having said something, or maybe you’ve an interesting piece of news to share from a business’s PR account. Either way, you’re going to want to send users directly to the tweet, rather than the feed. It’s actually incredibly simple to do. All you need to do is click on the post in question, click “details” in the lower right hand corner of the post box, and voila! You’ll be on the tweet’s ‘page,’ whose URL you can copy and paste at your will.
How Direct Message Deletion Works: Hovering over a direct message will show a small trash can next to it. Doing this won’t just delete the message from your inbox. It’ll delete it from both your inbox and the inbox of the person you were talking to. I suppose it’s useful in the event that you simply want a conversation to end or don’t want records of it to exist everywhere.
Mentions Aren’t Always Visible: When someone mentions or replies to someone you follow, or someone you follow replies to someone who mentioned them, it won’t generally appear in your timeline. That’s likely because the fine folks who designed the platform didn’t believe that you’d need to see every single conversation a person has with someone you’ve never met. In order to see their replies, you’ll need to actually go to their timeline.
Searching For Specific Tweets: You can search out posts related to a particular topic, so long as they contain keywords related to the topic. First, click on the “#Discover” tab. Looking for people’s opinions on Mass Effect 3? Type either Mass Effect 3 or #masseffect3, and you’ll see all posts that either mention the game or include the hash tag. ed that might not appear in your home stream, go to the “@mentions” tab in the upper left.
