You want the Windows binary files (.exe).
It sounds like you downloaded the source files instead.

Hi,
Would like to know which file should be downloaded for use with Windows Vista. I downloaded gnucash 2.2.5 tar.gz then extracted using PowerArchiver 2001 and while in the archiver it shows it in folder gnucash below program files when I explore for it nothing is there. I backed up the chain in the archiver and found it was put in documents/user/me/temp/gnucash but windows will not explore to that folder. I’m sure it’s a permission thing or defender maybe. What did I do wrong? I’m the only user and never messed with the permissions setup, quite frankly they leave me cross-eyed and cranky.

What version of Windows are you using?
I have XP SP2 loaded at home and it runs like a champ.

It takes ~10 minutes to start up for me. From reading bug reports it appears to be a Windows issue b/c of how GNUCash communicates across ports within Windows. This keeps it from being an option for me. I think the GNUCash team needs to address this known issue before declaring its product to be Windows compatible.
