Recently, I reported here on PCMech that PC Magazine was ending it’s print publication. Not long after I published that, I got an email about a really cool initiative online which would allow you to get a free subscription to the digital edition of PC Magazine (among others).
It is called the Read Green Initiative.
More or less, this is a promotional site for Zinio, a digital publisher of many of your favorite online magazines. Through the Read Green site, you can choose ONE free yearly subscription to the digital edition of any of your favorite magazine. After that one free subscription, you would need to pay for any other magazines you wish to subscribe to.
Now, according to this email I got, PC Magazine will continue to be published digitally through Zinio. As of this writing, I don’t see PC Magazine on their list of magazines on Read Green, but perhaps it will show up soon. I did subscribe to Iphone Life, however, because I happen to have an Iphone.
Even though you do get only one freebie, the idea is that this entire initiative helps save the environment. If you buy any additional subscriptions, they say that “a portion of the proceeds from sales will be used to purchase eco unit credits, to buy trees”. Plus, it is pretty obvious that reading online saves lots of paper.
