i agree with everything you said in the post except for the googleupdater.exe startup item. yes it's not "nice" to put things in startup without "asking for permission" first. but its not a new thing. i'd say a majority of top software manufacturers do it. ms office. sun java. adobe - reader has its startup item PLUS adobe's version cue is automatically set to start during installation.. so yeah, not nice, but don't condemn the browser for this. Google is just following in the footsteps of the ancestors of software with their own updater. PS... GoogleUpdater.exe also installs with google toolbar, google desktop, etc etc.. not just Chrome :)

I don't think of myself as a Chromehead. I've switched to using Chrome as my normal browsing ap, just because of the speed. I want my browser to just get the webpages up so I can view them, none of the other silly stuff.

Yes, you have to learn Chrome, just like anything else. BFD. First time I used Firefox, I had to find New Tab from the File menu. With Chrome, you just click on a tab. Does this make Chrome better? No. But you could easily pick features from each ap to throw around...that's just window dressing.

I actually use IE, Chrome, and Firefox, depending on the situation. Each has their own merits. Chrome's is it's speed. I don't see the reason for the browser one-upmanship, quite frankly.
