Google Makes Massive Improvements To Web Indexing Speed

As I am sure Google is the search engine of choice for most of our readers, they have just recently published an update to their search engine indexing process:

Some background for those of you who don’t build search engines for a living like us: when you search Google, you’re not searching the live web. Instead you’re searching Google’s index of the web which, like the list in the back of a book, helps you pinpoint exactly the information you need.

So why did we build a new search indexing system? Content on the web is blossoming. It’s growing not just in size and numbers but with the advent of video, images, news and real-time updates, the average webpage is richer and more complex. In addition, people’s expectations for search are higher than they used to be. Searchers want to find the latest relevant content and publishers expect to be found the instant they publish.

To keep up with the evolution of the web and to meet rising user expectations, we’ve built Caffeine.

In a nutshell, this new indexing engine allows Google to update their search results with new and updated pages relatively fast. Simply puts, this means if you search for “my search term” in the morning and then search the same phrase in the afternoon, you may see new results from items updated that day.

This is a complete ‘behind the scenes’ change but is a major step towards making sure what you search always returns current and relevant results.

  1. This is just a gripe about pcmech in general. I think Jason is their best Author, however Davids articles have over the last few years become so blatantly a way simply to make more $ the news letters are a little more than useless… but not much!
pcmech live on weds. was nice, but then Rich had to present David as a head in a mickey mouse wizard hat, I digress except please when i roll my mouse over a link at least it could be mildly related with the title!!?Nevermind I un-subscribe

    • Jay, I agree. Dave is doing the American dream the way a lot of folks do in business. Trying to retire before the business can sustain itself on it’s own merits. Kind of like kicking a kid out of the house at 15 and saying I’m behind you, but not being there for any of the hard questions. Yes I am glad he is spending time with his family, but his customers are suffering the lip service. More to the point, Dave used to be more nuts and bolts, hands on, now he is GRQ. Does Jason have his own thing going? On the positive side, at least he isn’t doing a copy and paste routine yet!?

      • After having looked over the site more, I am going to take it for what it is worth. There is good information to be had, it is a business that D.R. makes his living off of, and I can take it as it is or Un-subscribe. But the links in the articles are obtuse!

Guys, I appreciate your candor here but it is a bit off topic. If you have concerns, you can send a message through the PCMech contact link at the top/bottom of the page.

If you want to keep up with what I am up to, I just started a Twitter account: faulkner132
No posts yet, but at some point (soon) I gotta see what it is all about. :)

  2. Yes, basically the engine Google is the fastest machine I have ever met. The information is very interesting. Thank you very much.
