I have been waiting for Google to release it’s own to-do list application. If they could do this and integrate it well into Gmail and Google Calendar, they would have the ultimate Outlook killer on their hands. And they would make one happy little nerd out of me.
Well, it is possible we’re closer to seeing this as I may have thought. Garett Rogers, over at ZDNet, has blogged that the Google task list has been spotted in the wild. A look at the thread on Google Groups shows people have been seeing it off and on.
I now see that a TASK LIST can accompany one’s GMAIL…. A task list suddenly appeared on my Gmail page yesterday (Feb 4 08) , and I don’t know what triggered it. Someone invited me to share a calendar, and I accepted, and that person had a task list…. Is that what caused this TASK LIST to show on my Gmail?
And another:
I signed into my gmail on a friends computer today and Tasks came up. It was on the right side of the screen. I didn’t play around with it any, but did chuckle that the skeleton text in the add new task form
mentioned TPS reports, a la Office Space.
Users have been asking Google for a todo list for some time. Google responded:
Hey everyone – thanks for the loud and very clear feedback on your desire for a to-do/task list feature. We’re pretty passionate about to- do lists here as well, and we’ve got something in the works. Of course, we’re working to add our special Google secret sauce to the to- do lists space (which can take some time to get right,) so we don’t have something to announce just yet, but the entire team is listening to these threads closely.
A to do list inside of Gmail would be an awesome addition. And if I can also easily work with that list on my mobile phone, I’ll be in heaven.
