Google Voice Is Now Open To The Masses

If you have wanted to give Google Voice a try and have been unable to get an invite, you will be happen to know that the service is now available for everyone.

If you are unfamiliar with Google Voice, the idea is simply you have a single number people call which can ring to any device. You are not tethered to a single device in the event you, for example, change your cell phone number. Additionally, the service does free Google to Google calling (with low priced international call options), voice mail to email and text (making it searchable), and is entirely web based. Check out the full feature list here.

As a Skype Pro user, I don’t really have a need for this service but I can certainly understand the appeal. Do any current or future Google Voice users have opinions to share?

Google Voice is not yet available outside the U.S.

This is the message I get upon clicking the link above:

“Google Voice is not available in your country.
Thanks for visiting Google Voice. We're not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future. “

I have a Google Voice user since it was first developed. It has been a God-send. Spam callers aka tele-marketers were a thing of the past, and calling online is economical when you travel.

I have been using it for about 7 months… voice mail to txt/email is a great feature… not always stellar because many people will not speak clearly enough for the translator to give a clear message, but usually enough to get the gist of it and you can then go and actually listen to the voice message as well. Another great feature it is send to VM, when you answer the call, you can send to VM and listen to the caller leaving a message and choose to answer mid message if you want…

  4. Google Voice is great. I use it as my main office income phone line. My favorite feature is the screening options. I can send people direct to voice mail, and selectively allow certain people to ring my phone. I can even set up custom VM greetings depending on who calls. Since I personally hate the phone with a passion (just a huge interruption), I like that GVoice gives me control.

“… you will be happen to know…” reads the first sentence of your Google Voice announcement. Seriously, doesn't someone proof this stuff before posting?

  6. Google Voice in my opinion would be an alternative choice other than using Skype. Although I have not tried this service but I think with good facilities, we can use the alternative option to call with good quality. Thank you very much, very useful information
