Victor Writes:
Is there a way I could access a webcam that is hooked up to a desktop computer in my home network with a different desktop computer in the same home network? I would like to monitor what is going on downstairs from the computer that is upstairs! I would think this should be similar to accessing a printer that is hooked up to a different computer on the home network.
The hard way would be to use remote desktop software where you load the entire desktop (such as with LogMeIn), but the frame rate will be very slow.
The semi-easy way would be to use the iSpy software which includes iSpy Server. I say “semi-easy” because setting it up isn’t exactly a simple 1-2-3 process. This isn’t to say it’s difficult, but you do have to know the basics of how to set up a server. In other words, if you know how to set up a wireless router, you can get the iSpy Server set up in about 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your skill level.
For those wondering, yes, iSpy is free; it’s open source. In addition to PC use, you can even use iSpy from an iPad or iPhone, so you can cover all the bases, so to speak.
