How-to: Break up large files easily with 7-Zip

Posted Oct 3, 2007 by Rich Menga

7-Zip is quite possibly the only archive program you’d ever need. Not only is it small, it’s lightning fast, runs on Windows/Mac/Linux (and others,) it’s clean, easy-to-use, will pack 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR, unpack RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS, actually compresses ZIP files better than WinZIP does, and best of all - free.

And if you thought all that was great, it also can take larger files and split them easily. It’s a quick’n'dirty way to send large files in e-mail and/or backup data to CD or DVD.

Check out the video below for how to do that. It’s very easy.

Monte is a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Afterwards, he served a long career as a computer repair tech and network administrator. LEARN MORE
