If you have a laptop that’s not over 3 years old, you may have a “LINE IN” port for sound input and didn’t even know it.
Certain laptop manufacturers do actually include a 2-channel (meaning stereo) port MIC port next to the output port; this allows you to plug in things like iPods and other audio devices over a traditional 3.5mm stereo connector rather than use the USB port.
