How To Rename A Task In Windows 7 Task Scheduler

This is a quick tip but a good one to know. Strangely enough there is no way to rename a task once it’s set in Windows 7 Task Scheduler. You can right-click/Properties or edit the task until you’re blue in the face (or screen, ha ha), but you can’t rename that darned task.

There is a workaround however.

Right-click your task and select Export:

Save the file as XML to your desktop:

In Task Schedule, click Action then Import Task:

Select the Desktop and import the file you just saved:

Now you can name the task whatever you want:

Once imported, check the settings to make sure they all check out to your satisfaction, then delete the old task with the name you didn’t want and keep the new one.
